Massive Crackdown on IPL Betting in Chhattisgarh: 26 Bookies Nabbed in Pune Raid

In a significant breakthrough against illegal betting during the IPL season, authorities in Chhattisgarh have carried out a sweeping operation resulting in the arrest of 26 bookies from Pune, Maharashtra. This operation marks the most extensive crackdown on IPL betting in the state to date.
The accused, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh, were apprehended by the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit based in Raipur under the supervision of SSP Santosh Kumar Singh. Their illicit activities were traced to Pune, where they were found orchestrating IPL betting through various online platforms.
Undercover investigations revealed that the bookies were using the Ready 67, Mahadev 149, and Laser 10 ID panels to facilitate their operations, each ID fetching a hefty sum ranging between 35 to 50 lakh rupees.
A total of 34 bookies have been apprehended in connection with the case thus far. Seized items include 11 laptops, 98 mobile phones, and various other gadgets and documents, collectively valued at approximately 25 lakh rupees.
Data extracted from the seized devices indicated transactions exceeding 30 crores rupees, with information on over a thousand players obtained from mobile phones and bank accounts.
The bookies face charges under several sections of the Gambling Act, the Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act, 2022, as well as sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Telegraph Act, and the IT Act.
The success of this operation underscores the dedication of law enforcement officials, including Amresh Mishra, IG Raipur Range, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Santosh Kumar Singh. Their proactive measures have led to a significant dent in the illicit betting racket thriving during the IPL season.
Further investigations are underway to track down additional individuals involved in the illegal gambling syndicate.
